Lawson Burch (A4)

€18.00

Lawson Burch was a landscape and figure painter born in Belfast and was educated at Grosvenor High School and then at Stranmillis College where he trained to be a teacher.

Lawson showed his first artwork “Low Tide” in the Royal Ulster Academy in 1965.

His subject matter was mainly people in the city of Belfast who were caught up in the conflict and tension as well as Donegal landscapes.

Burch exhibited six pieces of art for the first time at the Royal Hibernian Academy in 1993 and continued to do so every year up until he died suddenly in Donegal in 1999. He was buried in Portnoo. Lawson was a great friend of our Dad Charlie, and of the family here at Nancy’s. His artwork can be seen throughout the building, and a small tribute to him sits in his favoured spot right beside the front bar- a turf carving of the famous three swallows that adorn the front of every bottle of Powers whiskey- his tipple of choice.
